Apparently it's the Kodak Vision 3 500T movie stock but with the Remjet coating already removed so it can be processed regularly as C-41. The sample images look nice and it's not too expensive so I'll definitely try it out. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether or not it has a DX code on the canister.

I've got some but I haven't had the occasion to use it. The cans are not DX coded, however it looks like it maybe just a sticker placed over a regular Kodak can. They also have a Facebook group, and a blog I think with some examples of other people's work.

Here in the US it's on backorder until late September I believe, from Freestyle. In their FAQ section Cinestill states to rewind slowly, as the initial batch have all been rolled by hand. When I go pick up my order I'll ask if this is still the case. Anyone with examples to share, stuff looks amazing.

I bought mine from their etsy store back in December, I looks like you can still get it there if freestyle doesn't have any. I'm guessing they make a bunch to go to freestyle, but still take smaller orders from the etsy store.

I also just loaded my QL17 with this stuff this weekend for some indoor shooting, rating it at 1600 so hope in month or so I'll have some results.

I don't quite understand the push chart

It tells me it is suggested to push 1 stop when I expose at EI1250 and 2 when I expose at EI1600? (1600 is 1 stop over 800)

Yes, that seems to be the case. From what I understand the film has a lot more latitude than a regular still-photography emulsion so exposing it as ISO800 is just a standard recommendation.

Hello

Vision stock is great to shoot on, but for most
people the point is that it is cheap.

At the price they are charging, isnt it cheaper
to buy Portra400 ?

I use short ends [almost free if you know some
camera dept or production people] and roll by
hand.

The ramjet removal chemical is easily available
from Kodak [ I paid £10 for 20ltr including London area delivery ! ].
Or can be easily made from raw chemicals.

Even if you buy the Cinestill stuff, it is worth making
up the CD part of the ECN-2 process.
There are some great threads on Apug with the recipe.

The colour on C41 is good, but with ECN-2 is even nicer 🙂
Then use a regular Bleach from Tetenol of Fuji-Hunt kit.

Definately worth trying Cinestill or blag-and-roll Vision III.
It is the pinacle of colour neg film, the likes of which we might
never see in the future.

Also the Vision III 50D film [ iso 50 ] is amazing, grain is almost invisible.

Out of curiosity, what are the characteristic differences of developing the film in ECN-2 vs C-41?

Also, (I just ordered a 5-pack out of curiosity), where is a US lab where I can get it developed in ECN-2?

Hello

The dfference, hmmm.
Probably I would say there is a better colour "clarity" with ECN-2.
If you are scanning, it is porbably not a massive difference,
maybe less parallel contrast curves between RGB, ie you might
get slight green cast to shadows etc.
For RA4 printing, ECN-2 film is probably not much good, as the contrast
is much lower than C41 design films.

I can post some test charts, but that could be rather dull !

Oh and ECN-2 development runs hotter, at 105F.

I'm in UK, so not much knowledge about labs in US.
The ECN-2 labs are basicaly for movie processing, and they
are closing with an alarming rate all over the world.
So for small strips [36 frames] it would be expensive or
akward to get done, unless you know a some people connected
to the film production side, or DOP's etc.
In London, I think there is only one lab,Technicolor, left.

Here's some scary info.
I recently spoke with a London post-pro company [FX and film transfer for TV and FILM].
They said that about 90% of their work is now from digital [ie not shooting on film].
Five or so years ago, this probably would have been the other
way around, ie 90% of work from film, or even higher.
