cl is here...

yeah...never hurts to try. i recently shot a photo of my wife on the couch with a shutter speed of 1/2 a second (figured it wouldn't hurt to try). i braced my arm against my body, and the shot came back really sharp...and i love it. had i just thown in the towel...i wouldn't have known that in a pinch...i can hand hold that kind of thing! and really for the lens...if you stop down to 5.6 you should be fine no matter what (i would think).

I'll admit I find myself using my pre-war 90/4 Elmar on it more often than I expected. There is something fun about using it that was a pleasant surprise.

Haven't gone down to 1/2, but have done several shots at 1/15 & one at 1/8 that worked better than I thought they would. Really this has been a very surprising little camera to me; hope you have as much fun with yours joe.

oops...guess i didn't clarify. the 1/2 second wasn't w/ the cl (although i used 1/8 and 1/15 all the time on the cl). it was more just saying hooray for the "never know until you try" mentality.

Hey, Joe - that's a nice-looking wrist strap...I'm sure I've missed it, but where do you get such a thing?

Oh, and - do you find it's useful enough, functionally speaking? Thanks.

Cheers,
--joe.

joe - thanks for the info on the wrist strap; it kinda reminds me of the Domke "rangefinder" neckstrap, with the leather-bound ends. I have that one, and it's awful nice.

--joe.

ps. your cl looks fantastic, btw, especially with those canon lenses sitting around. i was just shooting with my canon 100/3.5 yesterday thinking, dang, "this is a pretty lens." enjoy.

a rangefinder neckstrap? must have missed that one.

yeah, the smaller canon lenses are made for the cl i think.
but i was surprised that the zm lenses also were quite comfortable to use on the body also.
i may end up using the zm 35 too.
if i could 'guesstimate' good enough with the 25 i would use that in a hearbeat.

joe

Just out of curiosity, do you think the canon 35 is a better match for the CL than is the 40mm Leica/Rokkor lens? Not trying to start a brand name war, but I am curious and, if so, why you feel that way.

Thanks,
Randy

not better but different.
the canon 35/2.8 has a look that i like.
the zm 35 has yet another look.

if i did not have the canon lens already i would be looking for a 40 minolta or summicron.
in fact i am already finding the infinty lock which i use to focus with almost too close to the body for easy use so the 40 might be even better from an ergonomic pov.

cool!!

my camera manual is in german, is the spot the same as the focusing patch?

joe

My manual is in Japanese. However, the illustrations show the spot as a circle with a diameter the same size as the horizontal length of the focusing patch. I can confirm it's definitely a spot meter. 🙂

i was the recipient (from a most generous member) of a pdf copy of the manual in english and have since discovered it is a spot and the if one can imagine the patch as round then that would be the metering spot. at least with the 90 attached and a bit bigger with the 40 attached.
the cl seems like a pretty good cam so far. i have all of about 20 minutes of shooting time on it so i cannot claim any great expertise yet.
i fear the 35/2.8 may not be the best lens for it though. it might be too small and as i mentioned before, i focus with the infinity lock and it just seems too cramped up front.
putting the zm lens on the body and focusing with the focus collar was much easier.

time will tell...

did a bit more shooting today but not too much, it's cold and very windy out there and apparently, i am a wuss.

i changed out the wrist strap as it was a tad too short for comfortable use.
i had an old canon (narrow) neck strap and made a longer wrist strap out of it. instead of using just one strap lug i used both, i think the way it's intended.

i was completely surprised at how much i like the left handed camera hold, especially after years of a right handed hold.
i'm thinking of shifting the straps on another camera to see if the it's a trend or just a fad😉.

part of my surprise pleasure is having my right (dominant) hand free for other things.
