CL Lens Test

I have recently gotten my paws on a 40/2 Summicron-C for my CL. This is a terribly nice lens and I'm really quite happy with it. Sunday afternoon my son, our babysitter & I went to a nearby park for the afternoon to give the Boss a rest. I had 2 rolls of Reala CS along. It was a mostly cloudy day with sun breaking through occasionally, but otherwise nice while we were there. Since I was trying to keep up with a 4 year old and a 14 year old, this was a hyperfocal exercise - I set the aperture to f16, the hyperfocal distance, and adjusted the shutter speed as appropriate to the changing light. Being ISO100 film, this occasionally left me a bit short on shutter speed... 😉

I also had the 90/4 Elmar along. It's a prewar uncoated example and I was mainly interested in seeing how well the brightlines portrayed what the lens saw. So far, so good... 🙂

Anyway, here are the best of them. A couple are actually pretty good, the rest are simply to show what these lenses can do in a daytoday situation.

Oh, I hear you. Made me kind of ache just seeing her jump like that. Hopefully she'll enjoy the picture when she get's a chance to see it.

Brett - thanks for the kind words. Yes, these are a good sample of what it can do. Nice punch without blowing the varied skintones in the subjects.

Les - I certainly agree that it's a screaming bargain. I'm really happy to have this lens.

Gotta second the motion for this lens. I have the 40mm Rokkor version and really like it. Not only does it perform well, but it's a wonderfully small lens. Due to its size, it's the lens I use when I want to travel light with my M6. As for its performance, all of the PCC Railcars shots in my gallery were taken with this lens. I think it's a winner and a relative bargain.
