CL & Ultron 21 1.8

I've just received my new Ultron but I've discovered that integrated shade blocs the rangefinder. Not completely, at infinity it's about bottom half and seccond image completely disappears between 1.5 and 1.2 meters. 🙁🙁. Am I the only one trying to use such a monster on the smallest Leica M camera?

BTW I tried Minolta CL with same result.

Update: even without hood the rangefinder would be still partly blocked by aperture ring (in worse half of it).
Whose idea was that integrated shade? Makes the lens bigger in every direction, heavier and dismounting filter is a job for girls' fingers. Looks cool though.

I paid 1000€ for super fast lens to shoot wide open in low light (with shallow DOF in addition) and all I have is scale focus :bang:. And without focusing tab.

A CV 21/1.8 attached to a CL. Now that's something I've gotta see! You should post a picture of it!

Didn't you realize that this would be a problem when you bought the lens? This lens blocks all RFs to some degree. Considering how small the CL is, it was bound to be unusable as far as focusing goes. The intergrated hood is to protect the front glass. VC started doing this to all their wide lenses.

Just looking at the lens, it seemed that would be the case.

I'd like one for the M9, it images better with the M9 sensor than the Color Skopar 21/4. The latter fits the CL very nicely.

I'll try to post an image tmrw. Believe me, it looks really awesome. Frankly I was little bit doubtful but I believed it could fly. Anyway there aren't many fast WA lenses.


The question is if integrated hood is a good idea. I realy like removable shade on skopar 25 and I don't see a reason why not to use this design on other lenses. UV filter works better as a protection imho, at least from water (working in peaceful environment, don't have experience with flying objects towards the camera, fists etc.). I just like to have an option. Having small non-effective compulsory shade especially on such a unique lens cuts of versatility.

Most filters won't fit correctly on wide lenses. Whether it is because the front element bubbles out a bit or it being too wide and cause vignetting. some of the older wide VC lenses had detachable hoods, but then you had to get adapters or DIY to attach filters. I guess when VC decided to update their lenses the engineers figured the easiest thing for users was to add the hoods with the proper thread sizes and depth to attach filters.

Here are promised shots. On the last one I'm trying to show how close the rangefinder is over the barrel (hood). Just 2 mm narrower lens and RF wouldn't be obscured.

There's a possibility that I'll solve this unpleasantness with an adult Leica 😎. And I swore not to buy anything else this autumn :angel: .
