Another alternative would be for Leica to include a 39mm and a 46mm filter with each camera. If you didn't want these filters you could exchange them (unopened) with your dealer or Leica for the sizes you want. I think for most people a 39mm and a 46mm would be a good start.

Not sure if the OP had their questions answered but I had the same experience with my Dec 24th/08 purchase of an M8 from a local dealer. They clearly disclosed that the camera had been sold and then returned by the buyer with its warranty card unfilled. The camera had been sent to Leica for full checkup and was sold as new with full Passport warranty and was eligible for the rebate. However, when I went to register it the website stated that my serial number had been previously registered and that the filters had been claimed. After weeks of emails with Leica NJ and eventually Leica Germany the problem was traced to a database error in Germany. I was less concerned about the free filter and more concerned about getting the rebate.

Anyway, after about 8-10 weeks of emails and phone calls I asked the folks in Germany to register the camera on my behalf and send me two filters.

in my mailbox 😉
