So has anyone tried this Classic Pan film?
It's supposed to have a high silver content and produce a 1950's look -- if anyone can tell me what that means exactly, I'll be very grateful. 😉 Retrophotographic said their last batch sold out very quickly, and so that means there must be someone out there with sample scans, at least. 🙂

Any samples to show?

If I recall correctly, it lacks an anti-halation layer, which leads to some low level fogging that was common in the film of the bad old days.

I haven't used it before though, so I should shut up.

I have been using Classic 400 (which is supposed to be the same as Fortepan 400, i.e. from Hungary) in my Minox 35 GL P&S for some time. At 400 ASA I was disappointed, everything seemed to be bleached, low overall contrast. Then I remembered that, on the fotoimpex.de website, they stated that it was a red-light susceptible film, good for low-light situations, and I took good pictures in available light situations (Jazz concerts in bars and clubs in Berlin), and I had it pushed to ASA 800. Pretty good contrast, grain still low, excellent results. Didn't scan any so far, sorry for that, but if you bear that in mind (that it is a film which is "superpanchromatic") - just push it one stop, and you'll be more than satisfied!

That's weird re: classic/fortepan 400. I had really good results shot at 320 in id-11.

anyway. no help on classic pan 100.

I must add that this one seems to me a film that has been made for the crazy bunch of people who, apart from T-flat crystal 1600-3200 ASA films, like to do it the old available light way. Tried to push Tri-X as well, for the "old look". Much more grain. Classic 400 was better!

That is to say, I am an amateur, had them developed at Fuji's, Germany, no idea what soup they used.

Thanks for the feedback, Jesko. Sounds like a good ISO 800 film to try in that case. If anyone else has any ideas about development, pls share your experiences. 🙂

Hi,

I have been experimenting with Classicpan 200 and 400 and just posted my initial results. Do not know how to link to a thread, but search for " classicpan" and it will pop up. Sofar I liked it best in Xtol 1+1 . Hope to have time soon to take it for a stroll outside. Will then upload some of the results. Not sure yet, but I think I will like it, it will never replace Tri X, but it is a lot cheaper and seems to have a character of it's own.
