CLE and Nokton 40

Is anyone using a CV Nokton 40 on their CLE and if so, what hood are you using with it? The CameraQuest page on the Nokton says that the LH-5 hood blocks the rangefinder so I'm wondering if an aftermarket hood might be a better option.

Hi, I use that combo, but I don't use any hood, and have never had any flare issues. Why make the lens bigger than it has to be?

If you do encounter flare, then i would find a generic 43mm thread rubber collapsible hood and try that (check for vignetting). Otherwise Ebay seller Heavystar may have a vented 43mm metal hood.

Enjoy

I prefer using hoods with all my lenses partly for protection as Ray mentions and partly because I was planning to get the single-coated version, so I'm expecting that flare is more likely to be an issue.

Thanks for the link to that thread Ray - very useful.

The LH-5 hood for the Nokton partially blocks the rangefinder patch on the CLE from 0.7m to 1.5m. The rangerfinder patch is "usable" at the top to focus in a pinch though but for complete accurate focusing you should remove the hood between these distances.

While it's not perfect, the CV hood is vented which might help. You might try the "normal" lens hood vs the "wide" hood from Heavystar. I use the CV hood on mine. I do wish it would mount on in the reverse position for storage in the bag. I agree, the front element on the 40/1.4 is a bit big to not have something.

Thanks for all the useful replies. I missed out on the Nokton I was going to buy so am currently contemplating whether or not to splash out on a new one. For the moment though I'm going to stick with the 35 I've been using up until now.

...seldom use the hood...seem to get some nice effects without it...I do enjoy the speed of the lens, however, and what it gives up in size to the Rokkor, it takes back in speed for dimmer subjects.
