CLE Battery Compartment & General Tips

Hi all, first post here and indeed in RF forum altogether.

I've just picked up my first CLE, complete with a Nokton 40mm 1.4 and I'm raring to go *camera lust* 😀

However, first trip out and I manage to loose a battery after the battery compartment slipped open. Is this a common problem, and if so does anyone know of a more refined method of fixing it than just slapping some duct tape over it?

I notice at the bottom of the page here it is claimed that it is a fault if it does this, but I can't see what could be broken.

It's a sliding lid and there's a definite latch point, but some people don't seem to get along with them. It isn't the same as most cameras. Gaffer's tape would be a more elegant solution than duct tape, which can leave sticky residue. The cheaper brands are horrible.

Could be the lid wasn't slid all the way home and wasn't latched in the first place.

At some point, you will also unscrew the rewind knob by turning it the wrong way. Look at the arrow.

LOL That was my response and photo all those years back on photonet. The CLE battery cover only slides to one side, it doesnt lift, flip or come off. Although it does have a "clip" as it completely closes generally the tension of the batteries pushing up against the cover should be enough tension to solidly hold it into place. The tabs though that keep it attached to the baseplate are very small however. They get broken off by people who either slide the cover all the way off or most commonly they think the cover slides slightly then flips up. Doing this break the tiny tabs off and the cover never locks again.

When you have the batteries in does the cover initially stay in place? Or do you have to take it down to hold the cover down? If its a case that the cover just slides open because the batteries arent applying any tension on the contacts of the battery cover then you can just raise the battery contacts a bit to create that tension.

Haha, hello Palaeoboy and thanks for posting on this again.

I think the clip has gone by the looks of things. Pulling the contacts up has made it much, much better though. Think I may still add a bit of gaffer tape (thanks Graham) for piece of mind though.
