I am soon(ish) going to be having a go at the sticky shutter and dirty elements of my Contessamat. I've read about Ronsol - what exactly does that mean? Is it the lighter fluid for Zippos i.e. a hydrocarbon solvent?

Just be careful don't use to much, I purchased a Nikon S3 and the advance lever
never sprang back when advancing, just two little drops is all it took to get dirt
out of it and been fine now.

Yes, but the EU Ronsonol isn't nearly as good as the one sold in the USA, it leaves a lot of residues.
I use it to clean negs (shiny side).

Naphtha is what you want. Sold in small yellow bottles under the Ronsonol name as lighter fluid. Also known as white gas. Coleman stove fuel (with additives). All of these are USA terms and products; I don't know what they are called in other countries.

No worries, thanks for the info. I have obtained some hexane from the lab, it won't leave any residue. I'm new to the world of repairing these things so didn't want to start off wrong.

Not being picky, but I believe "white gas" is simply unleaded gasoline...used for cooking and outboards in past...Naptha is decent thinner from big box stores and most hardware/paint outlets.

I would suggest Naptha over gas. Ask Ruth what he uses?
