Just uncovered the top plate of my M4-2 to clean out the moisture and debris in the VF/RF. The first I did to the M4-2 since I bought it some 20 years ago. Now it looks spanking new and will last for another 20 more years!

If the spots are on the patch, then it is tricky to clean. There is a screen in the main prism, that can be removed by extracting screws from the top of the rangefinder. This screen likely is holding the dust particles, especially if they are in focus.

Also, there are a number of other optical surfaces in the RF that might be contributing to the dust.

Hans, if you are okay with removing the frameline mask, like Vickko mentioned, it cleans pretty easily. As long as you are careful with the lever that adjusts the frameline sheets, it's not too bad.
