Cleaning whit denatured alcohol?

I took my canonet to a no-specialize repairman to fix the rangefinder. When I went to pick up the camera I saw him cleaning the lens with denatured alcohol and I didnt like it couse I belive its not a good Idea. Am I right? what the worst can happen?

But anithing is gonna happen to my lens now? Am I gonna see any difference in my pictures?

I use Everclear. It doesn't have the adulterants that denatured alcohol has. However, that is only to clean a newly acquired lens. Once cleaned, I rarely touch the glass unless I put a fingerprint on it.

Denatured alcohol may leave an oily residue, depending on the denaturing agent.
