Clear File 35mm Sleeves vs Print File 35mm Sleeves?

So... when I finished my batch of Clear File 35mm film sleeves I decide to order Print File 35mm sleeves to give it a try and thinking it would probably be fine (and I believe at the time of order it even is slightly cheaper than Clear File)

And then I stop develop film for over a year because I moved and my chemical was in box since 🙂

Fast forward to today I finally break out the chemicals (still works!) developed a roll and attempt to store it in Print File sleeves, it is very very tight! I have to half coarse the negative into the sleeves, it's just not enough slack in width where the film would fit freely.

This is completely different with the Clear File sleeves that I was using, I went back and check my old Clear File sleeves and it would just slide in my fresh develops film just fine with plenty of clearance.

I now have 2 theory:
1) could it be the Print File sleeves some how "shrink" while in storage?
2) Bad batch of Print File sleeves?

Either way I have to now order some new Clear File sleeves...

I recently bought a pack of 35mm Print File sleeves and find them too “tight” as well. Don’t like using them, but don’t know if Clear File sleeves are any better. I plan to get some and find out.

Found a package of Clear File in the drawer last week. Happy they are right ones.

My fav for decades was the ones from Light Impressions. Digital killed that great company.

I believe there is a lot more than that to the Light Impressions story. There should still be plenty of info on the web.


On the neg sheets, I still prefer Print File, but do sometimes nick the corners on negative strips to ease loading.

I much prefer the individual sleeves from Archival Methods. 6 sleeves go in an envelope, and a bunch of envelopes go in a box. Very little chance of scratching your negatives with them as they are top loading. "Side lock sleeves". They sell kits of all three components too (of course) or you can buy just the sleeves.

Hey Tim Gray thanks for the information, I did not know top loading is an option! This Archival Methods sleeves does looks to be a much easier loading methods.

Hi,
I have used Clear-File and Kenro to store my 35mm negatives. On occasion, I have found that humidity in the atmosphere can make it a bit of a struggle to get the negatives in. I prefer Kenro.
