jamie, the manager of the walgreens i use said their machinery is amortized, so processing/scanning is all gravy. he figures it is good for 4-5 more years at least.

The question is really more like "Will places like Walgreens want to continue to dedicate space and staff time to something that seems to be so, well... 'old school'?"
If this industry move away from film was going to be gradual over 20 or 30 years, I'd probably hang in there with it. But these days it seems that corporations shift allegiances over night; bailing out on any business venture that's not producing maximum profit NOW! Look at Kodak: the rumors are that their film business was still profitable, but apparently not profitable enough. So they toss it all in the ditch.
And in the face of the digital juggernaut, what company wants to be left holding the bag (of lots of film production infrastructure) when demand for film falls to miniscule amounts?
