Cloudflare?

So, just what is this "cloudfare" thingy checking my browser before it redirects me to RFf? If you'd just move the site to an https server, we could do away with such oddball stuff. (I noticed this happening after today's outage, which was likely for upkeep).

Same here ... I noticed it this morning after not being able to open the site at all for a couple of hours last night before turning in. RFF has been really erratic for quite some time now and the amount of occasions I can't log in is like nothing else I have ever experienced from a forum of this size.

Asked about this as well. Was the site down earlier for maintenance or did something more sinister happen?

Seems like they are using cloudflare to protect the site from a ddos attack. There has been a few attacks on some big sites in recent weeks. Better safe than sorry I guess.

I see the same notation/interruption randomly on StopForumSpam, which I use frequently. Hard to recall when it began there, but it was many months ago...

the site went off line a few days ago due to DOS attack
cloudflare visitor authentication stopped the attack

the attack is over
cloudflare visitor authentication is off until such time as its needed again

Thank you and congrats on using avoiding trouble by planning ahead for a DOS attack. This is just one example of the time effort and money require to keep RFF chugging along. It's easy for us to take these efforts for granted.
