Clustering of Rape Crimes in US Counties

Oh well. The accuracy of such data needs to be checked out and improved upon by the US Justice Department.

"Approximately 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men in the US have been raped at some time in their lives"

Interesting. I have a wife, 3 daughters and a granddaughter. Must be the odd ones out. Actually know a lot of women, have lived in a lot of states and can't say I've know anybody that was raped. Makes 1 in 5 sound kind of high.

Maybe (probably?) you know someone who was raped - she just didn't tell you.

And yes, a lot depends on definition and statistics.

Thanks for posting the link Raid. Interesting report and it looks as if it is worth some follow up from our law enforcement agencies.

Recently, VP Biden announced the allocation of 7.9 million Dollars towards testing rape kits that have not been tested by labs.

The rape ciounts used for my study are most likely under-counts. USA Today is working on a study to better understand such undercounting of reported rape cases.

The "1 out of 5" is not based on the data that we used. It is given in the literature, and the sources are cited.

The statistic for women in college is 1 in 4 and that is a fairly short number of years and higher than the lifetime average for all women. Alcohol is a significant contributor. Repeat offenders who don't get prosecuted or expelled are also a factor.

If we dealt with the college situation better, we might have a large impact on many women's lives and the overall problem.
