Clyde Butcher on TED

He has been inspiring to me these past few years, not so much for his subject matter -- though it is spectacular - but for his good nature and craftsmanship. Thanks for posting the link, I would not have seen it otherwise.

Years and years ago, I saw a picture of him chest deep in a swamp with a large format camera. I have never forgotten that image.

When I am asking myself why I don't take great pictures ? . . . I think of him in the swamp, and that vision has (for lots of years now) pretty much explained why I don't.

And he seems like the nicest person on the planet ! !

Thanks for the link...I love watching these short videos offered on TED.com
I remember reading an article on Clyde many years ago in View Camera magazine...and it caused me to look for (but never did buy) a tripod for my 4x5 view camera that I could submerse in water so I could shoot like him...

Very true - it's images like that which remind me that, if I want to get the best results that I am capable of, I need to put in maximum effort possible.

Days where I'm feeling lazy about my photography (whether I'm shooting an event, doing a portrait shoot or working on a personal project) are the days when my output doesn't measure up to my standards. Consequently, I try to always remind myself that the amount of effort I put into a shoot will always affect the quality of the final images.

Raid - thanks for linking to this talk, very interesting stuff!

I came across a biography book written about him one day at the library, I can't put it down. The man has gone through a lot.
