I put a battery in my Bessa-R and I can't cock the shutter. How do I cock the shutter if there is no film in the camera? and then check to see if the meter is working.
The shutter in the Bessa R is not battery dependent so you should be able to cock it with an empty battery compartment. The meter should work whether you cock the shutter or not. You should be able to wind on the camera and fire the shutter whether or not there is film in the camera. The camera might be jammed - usually from winding on before the shutter has fully travelled.
I've jammed my Bessa R this way but it was a while ago so I'm not sure what I did. Try pushing in the button on the bottom plate and then winding it on again - I think that's what I did - but I might of just randomly twiddled with that and the shutter speed dial.
