Cognitive Dissonance: D-Lux 6 vs LX 7

I was reading on the D-Lux 6 with the super Vario Summilux 24-90mm f1.4 ~ f2.3 lens. What an incredible camera, when I found out it was based on the LX7 which is selling under 300.00 second hand. I spent a couple of hours reading on the D-Lux and the Panasonic sibling.

What I don't get is that D-Lux is highly desirable, while being identical to the Panasonic which everyone pans.

Imagine a Leica designed lens, great for available light and yet everybody yawns. If this was the R or M lens, the reaction would have been different.

I've never seen anyone pan the lx while singing the praises of the d-lux.

Imagine a Leica designed lens, great for available light and yet everybody yawns. If this was the R or M lens, the reaction would have been different.

They yawn due to the P&S sized sensor.

Leica has always stated that the differences between their models and the Panasonics, besides the red dot, are subtle differences in the firmware....... yeah, right.

clearly the firmware contains the code for the 'leica glow'. 😉

they are identical in hardware. Leica tunes the FW slightly. But basically they are the same unless u want to pay more.

for me, no point to get the leica version.

Leica tunes the firmware... Yes, to put the red logo when it starts up.

Even if they did change color balance or whatever, it may not be better, just different, so they can say they did something other than a logo change.

They are both good cameras, because they are the same cameras..

I have been shooting the LX cameras for some time, and they are outstanding. The main reason I chose them is because Panasonic (and Fuji) do not outsource their manufacturing, and having visited the Panasonic factory, I was impressed by every part of their operation.
