so i have an interested buyer for my 2nd. maymiya 6 body and now i have cold feet.
suddenly digital doesn't look as attractive.

i keep thinking about how i sold off my minolta cle kit (years ago) and regretted it ever since.

this is your fault franciso!
your 'seller's remorse' thread on that other forum started me thinking and that's always a dangerous thing for me to do. lol

need to think real hard...

Take the cost of the camera and divide it over 3 months.

Assume that the body is 600 dollars that's 50 dollars/week or about 6.50/day for the next three months.

Find something you'd spend that money on (a starbucks mocha is about 4 dollars/day) - and tighten it up for 3 months.

And voila - keep the body AND buy the digital in January when the sale comes on 🙂

Joe, I don't blame you for the cold feet. I'm trying to move in the oposite direction from digital to film, which make my posts here feel a bit out of place here (except expressed enthusiasm). I don't even have an operable rangefinder! My guess is that both formatts can enhance each other in the pursuit of ones vision. If I had a back up digital, I'd gladly swap for something with film - but doing the reverse would give me cold feet too. Some of the disadvantages I find in digital: 1. An anoying delay when trying to shoot street shots with people. (2) Manual overide involves pushing a long succesion of tiny rubber buttons to navigate thru deep imbeded menus. While labor intensive - it sure doesn't feel manual (3.) LCD displays are deceptive. Within those limitations, I love my camera.

After veiwing your portfolio "Whyte Avenue" I know that I would be hard pressed to render those kinds of images with my dinky digital with the same richness of depth, ect.

Note that there are no people in it. I think there are other elements lacking which is the reason that I want to cross over. Apologies for a few obvious tweaks in Photoshop (another forum). Hope yer cold feet find a solution.

i looked at your stuff and enjoyed the viewing. i'm still in the dark about photoshop (even tho i have ps7 somewhere on my computer).

Joe, my remorse was kind of temporary. When I think I'm selling my Minolta gear to a home where it'll get used so that I can keep my Leica... I feel better.

However, you're parting with a 2nd body in order to get a digital? Hmmm... I frankly wouldn't know what to do. Best do as rsilvferberg recommends so that you keep the body and still buy your digital camera.

Either that or, like me, get a loan... 😛

i've decided to keep the second body.
i know i would regret it down the line if i sell it.

soon, i may actually take one of them out of my camera bag and take a photo.

i think over time i have awalys regretted selling a camera or lens.
recently i got a olympus pen;ees- at a camera show; it was in great shape; and id had one of these 30 years ago- but gave it to one of my girlfriends ; along with my h/s
lettersweater.<i have come to regret this> ; but it seemed the right thing at the time..........oh well.
the pen is one of the origional 1/2 frame pocket rf cameras;just a gem-
mine travels in the volvo back seat bag with the snacks and water; where it freezes regularly; but is awalys ready for those must have shots done while driving.....
this one is a later version- the back hinges open ; my origional one- the back came off and changing film while driving became hazardous....although 72 shots does reduce film changes.
id preferred a 1/2 frame leica; and considered getting that wiley eastern european dealer to get the< definitely!!! > crazy russian r/f maker-to do it;
if you ever see the crazy russians rf cameras you will <as i > be totally stunned by the level of machinework and detail...

Glad to hear you're keeping it, Joe. I thought about selling my Rollei TLR to fund my DSLR, but decided against it. Ran a roll of film through it a couple weeks ago and am *so* glad I kept it. Nothing quite like medium format...

i never did sell that second body and i am very glad. i had been thinking that i wanted a good digital camera and now i have no interest in digital at all.
i'm excited about shooting b&w film again and getting into the darkroom.
and it's so nice to have 2 bodies w/ 2 lenses - no len's changing and almost always at least one body at the ready with film ready to fire!!

Hey, that's good news!

Yours truly quickly got over the sale of his Minolta SLR. I do have a picture taken in Costa Rica with that camera, hanging in the kitchen... and it makes me feel good: I learned something with it, now it's time to move on.

But that's me... Enjoy the moment! Seize the day! Take a Mamiya to work!! 🙂

I still have my Minolta SLRs (a x370s and a srt303b), and I think I'd regret selling them. Each time I 'go back' to SLRs after using a rangefinder I notice the huge differences between the two systems, but nonetheless I enjoy using both ! 😉

I just aquired the last of my father's old SLRs. I previously took the Minolta SRT 200, and today took possession of the SRT 101. They go along well with the rest of my stuff.

very solid cameras, i almost got into minolta when i first started out but foolishly read too much and talked to the wrong people and got caught up in the whole nikon vs canon thing.

Hi I'm new on here and know exactly how you feel about selling your mamiya. I just took my camera (Mamiya 7II with 43,80,150 mm outfit off the Auction in E-bay early because I was torn between keeping this outfit or going with a digital camera. I just coudn't get myself to part with this outfit as I love to shoot medium format. The reason I wanted to sell it is because there's alot of talk about film being obsolete in a couple of years. Be as it may I guess I'll enjoy it for a couple of more years!

tinman, there has been talk about the obsolensce of many film and camera choices soon. i think we will always have film. it may be a boutique item and we may be more selective about our shooting styles. processing b/w film will almost always be an option and even though these processes may not be commercially viable, there will always be some artisan who will process the color film for us. welcome to the world of filmosaurs.
