Any opinions on this lens? I found one that's clean except for light haze on the rear, may just need to be cleaned. I've seen some excellent pics in the gallery Gene has taken with his so I know the lens is capable of good results. I would probably trade my summitar and a few dollars for it, since I don't shoot with a fifty much I don't feel I need two of them, (I'm looking for a little better bokeh too). Whatta ya think?

I don't have a Summitar, yet, but I can say that the collapsible Summicron is a gem. I prefer the type 1 rigid version, but the collapsible is really nice too.

Or, do what Brian says, he is always right you know.

Todd, you've got some great shots done with the Summitar (and the Summaron too) please don't trade it away. :)

Hello:

Mr. Sweeney gave good advice. Use a hood, always, with the collapsible which is, IMHO, with the DR, the most even tempered of the Summicrons which become a bit relentless in later versions.

As everyone has said, KEEP THE SUMMITAR. If it's reasonably clean, you'll miss it when it's gone. If you enjoy atmospheric, romantic shots, you'll probably also eventually look for a Summar.

Remember, Brian doesn't even exagerate.....

Good. Aside from the wisdom of keeping both lenses, I would not trade a clean and proven Summitar for a hazy Summicron that might be able to be cleaned.
 
I'd pass. You're buying a defective product. Save your money and get a clean one or something else. Why spend money on something that won't work right when you get it. I made that mistake once and I just had to go and spend more money to buy a replacement.
