I forgot to mention the Summicron collapses well also in Bessa T and 2-4, R-D1, M5, and M8 without touching the shutters, which is sometimes an issue with other collapsible M/LTM lenses.

The Summicron is a little shorter than the Summitar, so it doesn't need to collapse as deeply.

My second 50mm lens, a collapsible. It performs very well with black and white and has a little big of a vintage feeling to the pictures (lower contrast?). It's nice and compact. I try to carry the camera around with me at work to catch a moment's inspiration. Here are a couple from our cafeteria.

I just got one for $60, price being low because of messed up front element coating and damaged filter ring. Low contrast, at least wide open. There's the "3D" quality which cannot be accurately defined.

Mine needs a trip to John Van Stelten's lens spa, but in the meanwhile, it's doing its job well. Besides, I like it; I think it's cute. 🙂

Post a close-up of the front element when you get it. It can't be worse than the one I bought for $70.

Here we are, Brian. It's my impression that the coating will have little effect on photos taken with the lens. I'm concerned, though, about the focus matter (other thread).

That will not have much of an effect. If you have not tried it already, get a good ammonia based eye-glass cleaner. Use an air-blower to get dust off the front, apply some ammonia based eyeglass cleaner with a piece of lens cleaning paper, and then wipe it with a second piece of lens cleaning paper. I "breathe" on the lens to keep the cleaner from drying too soon. It has worked well for me on two coated Summitars that looked like that. It's worth a shot, but do not get "too aggressive" with it.

Right, Brian, will do. Have already tried lens paper with, first, warm breath and, second, vodka.

Vodka would warm up my breath, but I usually go for Southern Comfort.

Brian, it doesn't matter what you use to clean your insides -- so long as the soft coating isn't damaged.

When I told Youxin of the ammonia suggestion, he said he'd already tried something called Windex, which apparently contains the stuff.
