What is a fair price to pay for a FSU collapsible 50mm lens?

Although the lens is probably inferior to the jupiter-8 on my zorki4k, I can't help but want one, as I'm one of the people who think they look really nice (rather than an ugly pig snout!) - that, and I'd like to fit the zorki in my pocket to aid my street photography.

What would someone pay for one of these from evilbay or a classified? And (although I should post a wtb for this) has anyone got one available?

What are people's impressions of the Russian versions of the collapsible lens?

Thanks everyone,

Ash

I paid about 45 bucks US for one from Fred___ what ever I can't remnber the web site. It was in good codntion. I sold it here for I think about 30 bucks shipped to the US

the multicoated Industar-50 is slower (f/3.5) and certainly has a different look than the Jupiter-8, but in no way inferior in performance if you're comparing two good samples.

for $10 you can get an excellent one and for $45 you can get a bad sample - hard to put a price on it.

I got mine, a superb sample, for $50 including a perfect Zorki-1c, case, cap, cable shutter release, ...

I wouldn't pay more than $25 for one in excellent condition. Plus about $7-8 for shipping. Frequently you can get a good price by buying it with a camera body attached. The shipping will cost you more of course.

I doubt that these collapsables are inferior with respect to sharpness, provided they're in good shape of course. They do have a very interesting image rendition though. At large aperture, they've got very soft out of focus areas and at small apertures they've give a sort of metallic zing to the image. Hard to describe, I've never encountered something like it in any other 50 I've had.

Left attachment: closed down, zing

Right attachment: wide open, soft OOF
