I've got hold of a collapsible 'cron but unfortunately it's in 3 pieces! I've got the optical unit, the focussing helicoid and a locking ring that screws on the back of the back of the optical bit (see pic).

The trouble is I can't get them back together properly 🙁 I can get the bits screwed together into one unit, but I'm obviously doing something wrong, cos when I do, the apreture ring is facing downwards, and the lens twists round with almost no resistance but won't collapse. There may even be bits missing for all I know.

Am I missing something obvious, or is the beyond the scope of my limited skills? If so does any one know a reputable but reasonably priced lens repair person in the UK - preferably in London?

cheers

Hi Gav,
If you find a definate answer, let me know. (I have a similar problem) A couple of thoughts. Lokking at the picture, there are "bits" missing. The plungers on the main body should have small bearings in the end and the large groove should have a felt collar. Without this (or at least the felt) it is relatively easy to put back together but a PITA with the felt.

Have you tried CRR in Luton? I think they would be the best bet.

Hi Kim

Thanks for that. One of the two plungers has a bearing in it. The other doesn't. And there is some bits of felt left in the groove, but it looks like it's seen better days.

Anyway, it sounds like it's beyond the scope of my abilities 🙂 I'll give CRR a call and see what they say.

Just wanted to post an update on this, and add a word of praise for CRR🙂

On Kim's advice, I phoned Peter at CRR last Monday and told him about the lens. He said to send the lens up to him so he could have a look at it. I duly posted in on Tuesday. I phoned Peter on Thursday to see what he thought, and he told me the lens was already repaired and on it's way back to me! It arrived yesterday.

I'd heard loads of good things about CRR, but it's one thing hearing about good service and another to be on the recieving end of it! After this experience, I can't recommend Peter's service highly enough. 😀
