Hi,
well we could say I'm 'new' to this Leica M forum
but I saw something yesterday and I think I need an opinion from more experienced users.
The thing in question is a collapsible Summicron 50/2 in leica screw mount, condition 8+ according to Midwest camera exchange and priced at $215.
Not that I'm really looking for a Leica, but I thought I could use that lens on my Zorki 3M (with all the considerations about focus incompatibilities of leica glass on ruski bodies) and still have something I could easily sell or trade if needed. And as the XA deal was unsuccessful, my inquiring mind started to look for something else.
I also saw a mint Canon 35mm f1.8 for $330 the other day, interesting but only can afford one. Oh well, I suppose I can survive having cookies for lunch for a month or two
p just kidding)
So what I wonder is if that's a price worth the purchase, more for trying some Leitz glass than for anything else. Thanks for your advices !!

I called on the same lens a week ago and was told that it had been sold. It may have returned, or they did not update the web-page. In any event, GRAB IT IF IT IS AVAILABLE!!! No opinions, of course. After hearing that it was no longer available, I "sniped" a Summarit in LTM for $149 that needs a CLA. So the price is ~the same, the Summarit is near mint cosmetically and I am a sucker for the Summarit. SO YOU BETTER GRAB THE SUMMICRON before my next allowance!

Brian, thanks a lot for the advice ! In fact I've already asked them about that lens, so if it's already sold I'll know soon
As I said, not really that I need that lens at all, or even the 35mm LTM I've been thinking, or the 25mm CV on Contax mount for my Kievs, but well in fact I didn't need anything else when I only had my X370s 3 or 4 years ago
Will keep you informed !

My M5s need red dots!
Collapsible 'cron 50/2 in LTM at $215? Not bad, not bad at all, but there may be something with it... or they simply want to sell it quick. Good luck with this one! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Giving away my favorite "fishing spot", Midwest photo Exchange is where I got my $95 Nikkor 5cm f1.4 in LTM. MPEX was VERY CONSERVATIVE in it's grading. It is functionally perfect, and would have been an EX+ in any other shop.

Well-known
MPEX is where I end up buying almost ALL of my second hand (or third, or fourth...) gear. If any of yinz bought a Nikkor 85mm f-2 in LTM within the last few months, it might well have been mine.
Second, for Brian and MPEX.
Ask for Stu. He's a good resource.
Sadly it's only a 2 hour drive from my house. I wonder if I've yet sent someone there through college?

Well by now I'm already completely sure about getting this lens... if they ever write back to me and if it's still available, that is.
Hope an answer to my mails (both to the main and Stu addresses) will arrive soon. If not, well, there are always interesting pieces of stuff worth to try out there
Anyway thanks a lot for your answers !

well, as Brian said, this lens wasn't removed from the web page so for now I'm afraid I won't be able to test that legendary lens on a FSU screw mount body... sigh...
Stu will tell me if they have something similar on the store when he returns next Tuesday, meanwhile... well my mind will start again to build up thoughts about...
- CV 35mm f2.5 pancake (again available from CQ)
- That Nikkor 35mm f3.5 in mpex
- 2.8 Elmar, Summitar, Summar, etc...
you know it's always fun to have something on your mind

And the end of the story is...
And the end of the story is...
...money in hands !
Yeah, I've been talking about that with a friend who has literally used pretty much every high-end system out there, and his conclusion was clear, he made me remember that great sentence that should be written on stone somewhere, there's no magic bullet.
And this has demonstrated me how easily you can get trapped in the hole if you're not careful and spend too much time reading things on a Leixx forum
It also helps the fact that each Leitz collapsible lens I've been watching has gone for WAY too much money.
So I think I'll invest that money in having my trusty Rolleicord serviced, and the extra time trying to polish myself a bit so that pics like this one came out with better judged focus distance and exposure

My summarit in LTM is boxed up and ready to go to Essex. $90 will CLA it. I will let everyone know how it comes out; total investment: $240. I even have a Nikon "Bubble" case to ship it in (El-Nikkor case).

I just looked at the Collapsible Chron. at MPEX (I live in Cleveland, my money and I drive there too often) I almost got it. Then... Oh, private message me if you want to know.
I DID get the M3 with the Next Generation Summicron.

Congrats on that M3 JD !!
About the cron... hehe, I now know the story
AND, even though I said what I said... temptation has fallen on me again in the shape of a nice Canon 7 rangefinder... around $250... Dead meter (which I really don't need) but otherwise excellent...
Sigh... Brian, hope you don't mind me stealing your words...

You will really like the Canon 7. It is the equal of the Nikon SP, except for the price! The shutter is louder than the M3, but it IS metal foil.
If you wear glasses: I put a little rubber "foot" over the hi/lo selector. It is a glass saver.

Thanks for the tip Brian, but unfortunately finally the Canon will remain in America and it's not travelling to Spain
By adding shipping charges and other costs, the price simply went too high, and not too far from what I could find here...
SO, I'm going to sleep with peace of mind

Joe, certainly the Canon 7 family looks like a REALLY interesting classic yet 'modern' screw mount body. But it's said that when something good it's gone, something better is yet to come
(Even though it will take me some time to forget the nice idea of the Canon7+Jupiter8 :bang: )
