Hi everyone, in spite of all the warnings, while trying to improve the focussing smoothness of my collapsible summicron, I decided to have a go at it and open it up.
No knowing how to separate optical and focussing unit at the back, I partly followed the instructions on the summitar and unscrewed a tiny screw only accesible when the lens is collapsed. Next I UNCOLLAPSED the lens but still couldnt separate the two units. On the other hand, now the lens will not collapse anymore. It just resists. Though it really was a tiny screw...
Any help is much appreciated - either on how to open it up or on how to make it collapse again - I assume one is the solution to the other..

I don't know the answer, but I can give you Sherry Krauter's address and phone number--both of which I think you are going to need.

Nah, I´m not gonna send it overseas..
I still hope there are some people here who know how to take a coll. cron apart..

There is a tiny screw in the middle of the barrel that may have gotten stuck. Happened on mine once, wouldn't collapse though. Its easy to find when the lens is extended, but you say yours is collapsed and wont come back?
To re-lube the helical take the three screws off on the back, unscrew the mounting ring, and mark where it unscrews. Then apply a tiny bit of machine oil. Then q-tip the junk out. Then a tiny bit of machine oil again.

Hey,
the lens is extended and won´t collapse.
Yet on the outside of the barrel there is no screw, and neither are three screws on the back (only tiny metal ball thingies visible) - sounds like you have a chassis similar to a summitar?. I unscrewed a screw which was only accessible with the lens collapsed just above the bayonet flange.

I just realized your lens is M mount. I'm thinking screwmount. Sorry about the mixup
