I was born December 4, 1953 and am seeking a Leica or Nikon that came off the assembly line the same days as I did. For now, I have a 1954 Leica IIIF Red Dial and a 1953 Red Scale 50mm f3.5 Elmar.

Year of birth falls between my M4 and IIIb, but my Summaron 35/2.8 is right on. Not bought for that reason: this is my most-used RF lens.

It is not the camera from my birth year, which interests me.
But when I eventually see the Leica with the serial number of my birthday for sale (according to the list a IIIA), then I take it up immediately!

When I bought my first M (M3) I checked its serial number and was surprised to find it was younger than me...
But Leica really did hurry to manufacture it to commemorate my birth.

Obviously only because of the stringent labor laws in Germany; I was born on a Sunday; they had to wait till Monday...

Funnily enough, I hadn't heard about the birth year Leica thing until recently... Then I checked the serial of my M4-P and found out it was made between December 1981 & June 1982. I was born in September 1981.

It was 1947... after the WWII... the year Leica was trying to catch up with the production figures prior to the pre-war era.. The series starting with 420xxx initiated... On the morning of the 15th of April the first IIIc came out of the production line waiting for the QC inspector Heribert to come down after repairing the leaking roof... Minutes later he arrived, checked the camera carefully, stamped and signed its papers then took a deep puff from his pipe by wondering "who would be the lucky owner of this one?"...
"Heil to you Heribert!" even if you happen to be in heaven now.. The camera is in the hands of one born on the same day...
