Color Portraits at the National Gallery

I just went to the National gallery and thought this exhibit was great, but it was the only photography related work there that really stood out.

The portraiture of the famous african americans really disappointed me. The photographer really had a chance to do something special and instead they were all in studio, and while technically great they just do much for me. Some looked like expensive driver's license photos.... Really would have like to see environmental or even props or something other then just straightforward shots in the studio with the same exact backdrop and lighting for every single person. The same could be said for the asian american exhibit downstairs.... Same photo different people.....

There was also a paragraph about the process where the photographer took three different black and white negatives with three different color filters... I can't remember the rest of the process but all of that was done to sell some newspapers... Interesting method.
