Hi folks,

My beloved lens is jammed. The focus won't move all the way, i suspect some sand as this occured on the beach.

I have been able to move across the full range but then it jams again and now will only move aprox 70cm - 2m.

Any advice as to a remedy?
I have ordered a lens spanner as nothing I could disassemble by hand seemed of use.

Cheers

I took PII focus block apart. To re-lube and fix loose focus tab.
I was able to put it back.
I'm using FSU caliper and 20L wine bottle lock to deal with lens rings.

Which version? There are versions of this lens in LTM and M mount. They are constructed differently. I had trouble taking apart an early chrome LTM that I had which had stiff focus. Never did get it completely disassembled.

It's an M mount, P2.

I can hear a rattle that is the cause as I can sometimes free the focus when I tip it.

It was indeed a lose screw and was easily fixed.
I'll describe the process, please excuse my ignorance of correct terminology.

First, I loosened the rear element collar by hand.
I removed the collar, rear element and a shim.

Then I used a lens spanner to unscrew a collar that joins the rest of the elements and the focusing mechanism.

Turning the focusing mechanism over I could that in fact two were not in place, I think you can see one of them in this photo at 3 o'clock, I have no idea what happened to the second screw. I didn't see the loose screw at first and it dropped out as I inspected and moved the mechanism.

I replaced the screw as pictured below and reassembled.
It seems fine.

I hope this helps others.
