Sometimes unexpected results - Panasonic GF1 with Holga lens.
I was surprised with this but quite pleased - not sure I have the right coloured border.
Always happy to have comment - constructive or otherwise!

OK Dave - what colour might you choose? LOL
I picked out the stone colour as a neutral but wasn't too happy.
Not sure about the white edge either - I tried black and wasn't too thrilled.
I am told that there is often an issue of getting the right colour and tone for a mat - a question of trying all sorts and sometimes the least expected works. I don't think there are any rules to be had!
Green, but which do I pick out? I haven't tried too many of yet!
Any more suggestions and comments are very welcome.

I hate messing with other peoples' pictures but, hey you asked, and I got curious as to how I felt about it, so I did what I did.....

I see this printed as a decorative piece, on acrylic, no frame. I added a drop shadow to give the print another dimension. The shadow color is from somewhere (?) on the picture.

Not fond Jesse of the dark gray matte. A kind of utilitarian shade of gray I associate with gun metal and battleships. Like daveleo's choice more for it being rather a non-color and thus not interfering. With this gentle - and intriguingly different picture - I think I would not pick up a color already present either. Think you don't want your matte making a louder statement than the photo, nor singing in a different key.

Thanks Dave - hadn't thought of the drop shadow idea.
The effect seems to have been to lift the picture off the page and suspend it whilst in the original it appeared to be in a hole behind the matte. You probably put your finger on the presentation issue by saying you thought it could be on an acrylic block, while I was seeing it as a page in a book. So I think it all depends on what I want to do with the photo now I have got it!
Very pleased to have had some response from both you and Shirley.

Anyone else want to comment? All welcome!

Sometimes I want a border on the image edge but the 3D-drop shadow effect doesn't fit with the aesthetic of the photograph. Then I use a simple border and plain white matting, like this one:

This one is applied using an app named Flare on OS X, but there are many ways to obtain and apply borders to images.

Wonderful image. I like how the colour seems to fall off from strong in the centre to monochrome (ish) at the edges.

I might be tempted to try a strong black border. Ordinarily I'd go classic white matte/black frame, but I think putting white next to this photo would just lose the edges of it.

Just MHO, standard disclaimers apply, batteries not included, warranty may be void in your jurisdiction, etc. etc. etc. ;)
