The best camera is one that still works!
With Fuji about to drop another compact system camera on the market and the new Sonys getting plenty of attention you need to get your finger out and make something a little more in tune with the market.
I love the Foveon sensor even with its current limitations and have been sorely tempted to bite the bullet and get an SD1M on several occasions ... I even considered an M9 for a blindingly foolish moment because as much as I love my Merrills to bits the auto focus is pretty damned average and I really crave manual focus (through a viewfinder) in so many situations.
An interchangable lens compact with an EVF would ring all my bells and I would give you my money in a heartbeat! You could even leave that same foveon sensor in it.

I'd settle for an Epson with the 1.5 crop foveon .. that would be a pretty good camera.

It's rumored to be coming... but it could be m4/3.

It would be great to have that sensor in m4/3, even with the crop factor. A good choice of quality lenses is just what that sensor would like..

Hey Sigma, how about an hot shoe EVF?
That would make me happy, so much so that I would buy the DP 1 and 2 to go with my 3.

As much as I love Sigma Foveon cameras, it'd take something special from Sigma... like having someone else build the cameras for them and they make the sensor. Imagine, Sony E mount Foveon full-frame.

Sigma is not mega-corporation like Sony, it takes longer for them to develop products ready. probably they have heavy emphasis on lens business too, cameras being secondary (just me guessing).

Well I'll happily chime into the choir behind Keith's mini-sermon of supplication.
Dear Sigma: please, can we have another? M43 crop, okay, EVF, oh yes even if optional and fewer than a zillion pixels? Thank you. Amen.

Sigma please have your camera bodies be designed and by for u by Fuji... Think Fuji xp1 or xe2 or xt1 w/ a foveon sensor.
Btw if u got that rumored m43 foveon sensor body ready to announce, I will be very happy w/ that..

The SD1M has the best design of any modern DSLR, I think. The mode dial and especially the function dial (the one that has power-on/single/continuous/2s/10s/lockupmode/etc). ISO dials and Shutter dials are cool/cute, but for real work, Sigma has it figured out (being able to enable mirror lockup with a dial instead of digging through a menu is amazing). The only thing I wish it had is a top lcd screen.
The DP Merrill series is another matter, and I would welcome Fuji's design ethos and glass.

I tend to like to have all my major functionality easy to spot w/o powering up the camera. The new Fuji control layout on the xt1 is my dream come true.
I agree w/ u that sigma did a lot of things right... Compared to other vendors.

Ps. Forgot to mention.. That ir/dust cover design on the sd is pure simplicity and genius. It is so easy to c and clean any dust issue off prior to mounting the lens. Plus it is far enough away from the sensor, I am not sure that minor dust spot would become a big issue as a dust spot right on the sensor. I would think similar effect to dust on rear element of the lens. But I maybe all wrong there since so far I have been lucking enough to not have any dust spots that I have been able to spot.

Ricoh gr (apsc version) batteries are 100% compatible w/ sigma dp batteries. Their associated third party batteries as well. I have been using the wasabi brand batteries from amazon as well. The OEM replacements hold a charge a bit longer, but these batteries seem to work well enough for me.

At around 5:19 in this video, the Sigma representative not only mentions that Sigma is planning to update its DSLR offering, it is also interested in expanding into other formats and systems.

I think if anything Chris there is an urge to own a Monochrom still lurking within me.
Perhaps I need some counselling for this 'small' problem!
