What was the last comic book or graphic novel that you read (as an adult ) ?

Okay, I'll start . . . 25 years ago (I am 67) another engineer at work told me he read the various Batman comics. "You're kidding, right". "No, actually I have boxes and boxes of them in plastic bags in the den."

Long long story made short, I became enthralled with comics and esp The Batman. I've seen most of the movies (most sucked) and of course I am waiting for this next movie release.

My favorite character (Batman is #2 actually) is Wesley Dodds / The Golden Age Sandman : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandman_(Wesley_Dodds) . . . . I have that complete Vertigo series and had it hard bound in 3 volumes and treasure it dearly.

It honestly has been a few years since I bought any new books (the new ones don't resonate with me ) but I enjoy sitting on the porch reading how The Batman or the Sandman made the world better today.

Well . . . there you go . . . I'm out of the closet now ! 😀
 
the stories around the Ducks from carl barks and other illustrators accompany me since my childhood. don't read them so much lately, but from times to times i always enjoy to come back to them. too bad, that there are no more serious illustrators like carl barks, who write stories about the Ducks nowadays.

sometimes i also read spiderman or batman.unfortunately we haven' t a good comic book shop here.

the last graphic novel i read, was "fun home" by alison bechdel. an autobiographical story about her childhood and the hidden homosexuality of her father.

my last purchase was "the arrival" by shaun tan. but i haven't read (watched) it yet. it's a a migrant story told as a series of wordless images.
 
Well, I began my comic adventure in the early '70's, but haven't read much in the last 10 - 15 years. While there's still some good stuff to be found, the new stuff just doesn't do it for me. I prefer the old Stan Lee - Jack Kirby - Steve Ditko stuff, where heroes were actually heroes.

To return to the OP:
The last good graphic novel I read was Planetary, by Ellis and Cassaday. Awesome stuff. Other graphic novels/stories/collections that I rate highly are Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, the FIRST Sin City, the Bone stuff ( it may be geared towards kids, but it's awesome ), just about anything from the silver age by Lee and Kirby or Lee and Ditko ( esp. FF and Spiderman ), and Love and Rockets, Howard Chaykin's American Flagg! and the greatest comic of the '80's: Nexus, by Steve Rude and Mike Baron. You can't go wrong with any of that stuff.

Lately I've been re-reading the Barry Smith - Roy Thomas Conan stories - great sword and sorcery!

Does Asterix count? Must be the last one I read in book form. Otherwise it's all stuff on the net these days for me. Lots of daily/weekly comics in whatever style you want. Keep me going through lunch.
 
The last volume is 50. The series is incomplete since the mangaka died. You can buy it online from your regular bookstores in Malaysia.

Why shouldn't Asterix count? They're a treasure trove of references to history, society and the (failings of the) human character. I've reread them all multiple times, and there's always some new subtlety to find.

Most recent read though: Copper by Kazu Kibuishi.
 
Les Aventures de Sarkozix (comic book) by Lupano/Bazile/Mafre, an Asterix parody. The cover says, "Tout pour ma Gaule". "Une Gaule" has another meaning than just the country...

Before that:The Last Hero (graphic novel), Terry Pratchett & Paul Kidby

Before that: One of the Epoxy series (comic books), by Jean Van Hamme: the one that deals with the Greek gods. Can't check the number, as Aditi has it.

And, always, Asterix.
