I'm going to have most of July 8 (Monday) in New York on my way from Miami to Iceland. I'd love to meet any RFF members.

I should arrive at JFK by 10:30 in the morning and I'll leave at 11:40 at night. The only activity I have scheduled is a 1 p.m. reservation at the 9-11 memorial.

Tom,

From JFK it is at least an hour or so into Manhattan depending how you travel. The wait to get into the 9/11 Memorial could take an hour, even with a scheduled appointment. Lately the site has been extremely crowded. Flying on an international flight requires you be back at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight. I would give yourself at least an hour and a half to get to the airport at that time of evening. Rush hour traffic is horrendous. Which leaves you with little time for anything else.....

Keith,

Thanks. I have almost 3 hours from arrival to get to the 9/11 memorial appointment. Do you think that I'll have an hour wait from my appointment time to when I get in? If so, then I should be out the memorial by, say 3 p.m.

For an 11:40 flight, I would have to be back at JFK by, say, 9:30 p.m, giving me 6+ hours to return to the airport.

I was going to take the subway into the city and return to JFK.

Tom, it really depends on how crowded it is that day. I work not far from there. It is a mob scene almost daily for the last couple of months.

Keith,

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll give the 9/11 tour some more thought and wait till the actual day of arrival to make a final decision.

I like the idea of taking the train in, looking around, seeing what the line is like and then deciding if I want to stand in line. I'm sure there is lots to take photos of anywhere I'll go.
