I've got a Jupiter 3, 8, and Industar 61 L/D. Would I see any difference w/ the Industar -22--especially w/ B&W film?

Thanks,
Bill

The 22 will be softer- at least mine was. "Nice Soft". The Rigid Industar-50 that I recently cleaned up is much sharper, but not as sharp as the I-61. I would like to fid a collapsible I-50.

Brian,

That's interesting. I find the I-22 (mine anyway) to be quite sharp. Just looking through some 6x4s from the I-22 and I-50 there's no obvious difference. On the other hand I've not done a side-by-side comparison to make a definitive judgement...

I was under the impression that I-22 and I-50 were pretty much the same, optically - is that incorrect?

I use the I-22 and the I-50, but find that the I-22 comes closest to giving a very similar look to the coated 1950s 50mm Elmar.

The key to the I-22 being very sharp, is to use it completely pulled out, not partially. Has good contrast and sharpness, but not as contrasty or as good of flare control as a modern lens, in my experiences. Very compact, and handy to carry around most of the time.

I love My I 22s , but then I prefer the feel of an old Elmar to that of the Zeiss Helios lense on my Kiev 4m . The sole collapsible which will mate with my M 8 is a Fed 50 / f. 3.5 which does not foul the adapter - but now I have 3 x I 22 rigids which have been rebuilt by altai to play with !
The Fed lense is superb - bright , clean and sharp , with a better feel than my black J 8 .
In fact , I am aquiring a couple of those oh so underated I 50s which came with the 42mm Zenit B , for use with my Pentax K 10 D .
