Could I get some feedback from any users of the Voigtlander 35/2.5 Classic lens on what you think of it? The Camerquest site currently lists it at $199, which is very tempting. Thanks.

Chris

Hi Chris, it is an amazing lens. Great Bokeh, very sharp and pretty high contrast.
I have the optically similar pancake version in black which I think I will be selling shortly. Like new in box. With filters if you want.

Still thinking about the price though.

Rob - think quick! With such good reviews on the 35/2.5 C I might jump quickly! Is yours Type I or Type II?

EDIT: Hang on, just realised the Type II is M-mount :bang:

It is a nice 35mm lens that works wonders on the Bessa R 🙂 It gives good results and is cheap to boot. Nice and compact for its size too 🙂 Most places sell the Bessa R with the CV 35 C type and they are a good deal. Altho I saw some for sale in the classified section on here.. 🙂

it is a black Color Skopar screwmount. First series. In perfect like new condition in box. Cap is unused because I only have used the lens with filters: I have an olympus cap 43mm and UV, yellow, orange and red filters. All B&W, Hoys or Tiffen I think. (at work now)

Chirs,

The CV 35/2.5 is a very nicely finished lens; I bought one with my Bessa R back in April and I have been quite pleased with it so far. It's fast to focus and razor sharp with good contrast, although (to my eye) not quite as contrasty as my I-26M 50/2.8. The OOF areas are smooth, but I like the bokeh effect from my Minolta SLR glass better. The CV 35 a nice match for the Bessa body but I haven't tried to mount it to my FED-2 yet.

Several photos in my gallery were made with the CV 35/2.5; take a look if you want to see the results.

Thanks Chris - I like your photo of the Pots & Pans. Junk ... er ... antique shops make interesting subjects! Very definitely leaning towards the 35/2.5 at this stage. Any reasons it would not work with a Canon P or Mir?

Chris

it will work just fine on the p for sure.

you might want to consider some old canon glass also.

a nice canon 35/2.8 can be had for similar $$ and offers a sharp but lower contrast alternative to some newer glass.

Chris - great lens, small and contrasty with good color rendition. Get it!

laptoprob - RFF member akalai has been looking for the pancake first version for a long time. If you PM you will almost certainly have a sale! 🙂

Chris, I've had this lens for about a month, and I love the ergonomics, especially the focusing tab. Some users prefer focusing ring, and this lens does not have one, so make sure you will be happy with the tab. Using the lens on an M2, I find that I can focus very quickly and accurately. For the price quoted, it is a great deal. Looks like it is only available in silver, but don't let that dissuade you. I chose silver b/c I've read that the black finish wears easily.

the 35/2.5 is fantastic. I've used it in all kinds of conditions with the standard built-in (miniscule) shade and never had any problems with flare or contrast, even wide open.

And it's easy to focus.
And it's small.
And even at f/2.5 I've never felt a need for anything faster - Handholding at 35mm is pretty easy anyway, I can manage it down to 1/8 quite acceptably.

I have to concur that the 35/2.5 is a great little lens. Yes, it is not very fast but it is tiny. Yes, there is a little light fall-off wide open (very few lenses do not have SOME fall-off wide open). However, this is not usually objectionable in b&w and many times is unnoticable in color. At middle aperatures, from f4 (light fall-off is gone) but especially between f5.6 and f11 this lens is a fine performer. For the type of photography I do I do not think I would want to trade the compactness of this lens for what might be a sllight increase in image quality that another lens might give me. However, I have never shot with the 35/1.7. I might change my mind if I ever got my hands on one.

That's a great price for new and excellent price for the used! It was well worth the original price. It shouldn't be tempting; it should be on its way to your house! 🙂 All I can add/echo is that it is a great lens, well made, contrasty especially stopped down (IMHO), and as you can see here, it has a legion of admirers. If you like 35mm lenses you should get this one, unless you want to start talking about the Ultron. 😉

Thanks everyone for the input and support. I'm ordering the 35/2.5. I've been keeping an eye open for Canon glass on 'bay, but the prices tend to get away from me! Now just watch - there'll be a flood of Canon 35s at good prices in the next week!
