Compact and pocketable lenses for Zorki 4k

Hey everyone,

i'm new to the forum, and reasonably new to rangefinders. I'm just wondering about what options there are for compact or pancake style lenses in the m39 mount. i've seen the industar-69 online, but often advertised for use with micro 4/3, which makes me think it won't cover the whole 35mm frame.

Is my assumption correct? if so, what other options are there in the m39 lens mount that would provide reasonable image quality, but me compact enough for the camera to be pocketable?

Hi John,

The Industar 69 won't reach infinity (without a lot of filing and no guarantee of success). It' made for a half-frame camera. It can work with an adaptor on 4/3 cameras.

Ah'd advise a Jupiter 8. If ye want real compactness, get one of the Inustar series 10-22-50 collapsible, but make sure that it does collapse properly.😎

i already have the jupiter-8, it's really nice, but the collapsible lenses seem interesting. how does the image quality of the collapsible 50s compare to the j-b?

The Industar 10, 22 and 50 are all f/3.5 so they're relatively slow. Personally, I've always had sharp results from my examples (operator-error notwithstanding). Even wide open they're pretty good, at least as sharp as the J-8 for a given aperture but with a slightly more old-fashioned look and quite contrasty.

Be careful not to get an early example of an Industar 10, the uncoated variety. If it's a pre-war example it *might* not have standard registration or threads, meaning it may not mount or may not focus properly.

There are no "pancake" style 50mm FSU lenses for LTM. Beware the "pancake" rigid Industar 50 that are often advertised as 39mm for FED/Zorki/Leica. They are an SLR lens, have no focus cam and will not work as-is. The RF version has a fixed extension-tube arrangement and an RF cam and is bulkier.

It's good but the J-8 is a little better and the Industar 26's are best of all.

You need big pockets for a Zorki 4K, regardless of the lens on it. Why not look for one of the smaller FED 1's or Zorki 1's with a collapsible lens?

the industar 22 seems to be pretty easy to get hold of, so i might give it a try.

the 4k isn't too bad for a jacket pocket. i've been carrying my FE w/o lens attached and 50 in my pocket for years. it's nice, but something with a lens attached would make for much faster shooting

I have both industar-10 and Industar-50. the I-10 is significantly smaller (shorter) than I-50. I can even collapse it in my Fuji X-Pro1. Can't do that with I-50 and Leitz Elmar
