I am heading back to school soon and wanted to get a flash for my R2M. I want to get a small flash, keeping with my small camera. I no longer want to be limited to only shooting during daylight hours. I've never really been interested in party photography, but I do want to give using a flash a try. A lot of college is spent in bars and houses etc, so I want to be able to use my camera inside those places. Oh and I would prefer on the cheaper side of things.

What do you recommend? Thanks.

If you can find something like the Sunpak 121 I think it is, or a Vivitar 200 whic is good to 15 feet or so, uses a 9v battery, super fast recycle. I used one on my Hasselblad 500C/M, several years ago, caused some comment since it seemed so out of place. But, used correctly, and with consideration of its limitations, it is great.

You should be able to pick up one of these small flashes for next to nothing used at a local camera shop. Also, the Promaster FT1700 is a good small unit still available new from most any PRO dealer.

A couple of months ago I bought a Metz Mecablitz 20 C-2 ... it seems a fine little flash although I haven't much used it.

Vivitar 2800, still available new from B&H, is a good small flash with a bounce head. It uses 4 AA cells and has enough power to work outside at night. It also has two auto settings.

I've recently bought a Sunpak DS-20 here from Adorama http://www.adorama.com/SUDS20.html.

It's nicely small, has an automatic mode, takes only two AA's, has a tilt head, but sadly no swivel. The guide number is only 59, but with 400 speed film is pretty effective.

It also has a slave mode and a PC connector so it's pretty versatile for what it is.

there are tons of small flashes, I have a rollei 121BC that matches the rollei 35. canon made a small speedlite, and if you're willing to look around there are some seriously small flashes developed for older 110 cameras. I have a really tiny fuji flash that I got with the camera for like 8 bucks.

I have a Soltron 133 that I bought for $2, including a pc-hot shoe adapter that was attached and really the reason I bought it.
