I have been using an LCD computer monitor for 7 years now and it has been fantastic. When properly calibrated it has been wonderful for image editing. But 7 years of hard use and it is going to go soon, the screen is getting progressively more yellow which cannot be profiled out easily and it has developed a flicker and high pitched winy noise.

So I got my eye on getting something new for my photo editing/video watching needs. LCD monitor is a must because of space issues in my apartment.

I got my eye on the Viewsonic VX2835W which has a 500:1 brightness and 800:1 contrast rating with a resolution of 1920x1200 and a 27.5 inch screen size, sounds good in theory.

One thing it does not have is a DVI output, but has HDMI and all the others. My computer has a ATI graphics card with dual DVI and a single S-Video port. I am told that I can use an adapter to go from the DVI port on my computer to the HDMI port on the monitor, but only if it is DVI-D or DVI-I (as if I know what that is) but is there any problems with reduced image quality? [edit] According to Wikipedia and what I see on the back of my computer I have two DVI-I dual link ports.

Also as my current monitor has not completely given out yet I would like dual screen them as I often find having one monitor doesn't cut it for photo tasks. Does dual screening your computer effect performance?

Computer specs are:

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz
4gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 3800 512mb

Obviously when shopping for a new monitor I instantly went towards the Apple cinema display but walked away after I saw the price here in China of the 24 inch model. Any other LCD suggestions for professional photo editing work in the 500-600 dollar range is also welcome.

Also I see there are not LED displays. I dont keep up with hardware, is this something I should consider?

Also have my eye on the cheaper, smaller, but better performing Dell G2410. Anyone out there using this for photo editing?
