All:
I got a lot of assistance from all of you about the selection of a 21mm lens for M8. I finalized -- and almost bought -- the Zeiss ZM Biogon. Then I learnt that the ZM lens don't work on an M8 without coding and I need to ship them to Zeiss in Germany to get them coded. Is life so difficult? Can't somebody in New York City help me fix this? I can buy in B&H or Adorama and code it nearby and start shooting rightway?!
Please advice.

Contact John Milich (jm@milich.com). He has milled ZM mounts for coding and he also makes a very high quality adapter mount for CV lenses that can be easily coded for use on the M8. His machine shop is in Brooklyn.frogmouth said:All:

I *believe* that ONLY Leica codes lenses ($125 each) and only Leica lenses.
BTW, your lens will work fine without coding. Coding just adds in vignetting control and cyan drift corrections (if you use IR filters) both of which can be handled in software in post.

Patent issues - nobody but Leica may code lenses and they obviously won't code Zeiss lenses
There are some workarounds and loopholes - see the other posts in this thread and browse the forums. The lens will work without coding and filters. You just miss out on the icing.

I have been offering custom adapters with machined receses for coding to adapt the C/V thread mount to M as well as machining your Leica or Zeiss adapter, if ds-mounted from the lens. adapters are in stock
