Confused about the Lynx 14 series

Hey, I'm new here and it seems that this is a thread for all the lynx 14 questions. I just acquired a lynx 14e, and I have a few questions about it. It's a version that looks good, clean lens, clean finder, though, I can barely see the rangefinder patch. Is there a repair which can be done by somebody with two left hands to make te contrast a bit higher?
And next to that, what does the red 'r' mean on the right side of focus distance scale mean? in the manual I can't find any reference to this.

I did a fix like that on my MG-1.
You cut a small square of window tint tape or whatever you can find matching the RF patch location. Pop off the top plate and stick it inside on the glass. Sure you can stick it on the outside but doing it to the inside is a more long term solution that allows you to clean the glass without it falling off.

If you want to be clever you'll use mirror tint tape with the mirror facing out.
I used what I had just to test the concept and it worked. I never got around to doing it with mirrored tint to make it less noticable.
Some people have put light blue tint across the whole VF area but I prefer keeping it clear and bright and just doing the center diamond patch.

The red r is for use with infrared film. Not even sure you can get that anymore...

PdB--The red R on the focusing scale is for infrared film. Infrared light focuses at a different point than the light we see. Here's how it works: First focus normally. Second read the focused distance off the distance scale. Let's say this is eight feet. Third turn the lens so that eight feet is now lined up with the mark at the red R. Ta-da! Mission complete!

Thanks all for explaining the 'R'. Since I couldn't find anything about it in the manual, I looked at other cameras and noticed similar kinds of signs.
For now the Lynx seems to work fine. have to scan my first roll now, but exposures seem alright (different speeds and apertures) and no light leaks. Just like to know if the focus is correct. So far I enjoy all the controls so close to each other, makes working with the sunny16 rather easy
