hey guys,

sorry if this question is a terrible waste of time, but i'm really confused as to whether a UV filter is the same as a skylight filter. well basically i've been looking for a filter for my canon 35mm f2 ltm, with the impossible to find 40mm filter thread, and so far, this is all i've been able to find:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/234902-REG/B_W_65073231_40_mm_Skylight_KR_1_5.html

all the rest of my lenses use UV filters and so i have no idea whether this would be suitable to just leave on my lens all the time. the main thing i'm concerned about is how it'd affect black and white film, cos it says on the site that skylight filters produce warmer colour rendition, but i shoot black and white most of the time so i'm wondering if it'd be fine.

thanks so much in advance for the help! (i really wanna make sure before i order because shipping to singapore is 35bucks :( but oh well...)

cheers,
shaun

For B+W you should get slight enhancement of contrast with the Skylight filter and out-doors. You also loose a little light (filter factor 1.1).

That being said, I wouldn't use this filter on the Canon 35/2 since it will vignette. Your best bet on this lens to avoid vignetting is to use a series hood, a step-up adapter or an older slim Canon or Walz filter.

Roland.
