so I've bought a light yellow filter which is approx a stop less light (I get that) but say I'm shooting 400 (on a R3A or CL) what should I meter for ISO wise (as I would use the filter stop there), should I meter at 200 then process as normal or meter 800 and process normal? I'm confusing myself with this which is utterly stupid as I know it's a simple answer but just can't fathom it at the moment...

:bang:

Is this a TTL or an external meter?

Oops read the question, Mark!!

You do not have to compensate for the filter at all with a TTL meter as the meter is already receiving light through the filter and thus the filter is taken into account.

excellent...thanks.....I'm such a thicky sometimes (I work in a maths orientated job as well, give me lab unit conversions anyday)

Ah, sorry I thought you'd be using the CL's meter. Light yellow probably only loses you 1/3 to 1/2 stop. As Peter says, let the Bessa'a meter work it out for itself but set your external meter to (say) 250, maybe 200. Develop normally. I allow 2/3 stop for a light to medium yellow as overexposure hurts a lot less than undexposure.

excellent thanks again Mark, I was confused by that as I had heard 1/3 stop in the B&W lit but I had read on pnet that it was actually more like a full stop. Again thanks...have a great weekend

This can be confusing, especially when you are using jointly a meterless camera and one with TTL meter, like I do. For ISO400 film and a green-yellow filter, I am dialing ISO200 to compensate for the loss of one stop in the meterless camera and leave the TTL metered one, as is.
