Connect USB scanner to network

An alternative:

Set up a computer scanning station. Either use a laptop of desktop at the location of the scanner. Install TeamViewer on both computers. Use TeamViewer to control the scanning window of the scanning station from the main computer. Set the folder that the scanning station saves the scans to a share with the main computer. Map the network drive from the main computer.

This would give you both a scanning station and remote control. You can control the scanner from both the scanning station and the main computer. Saving files to the remote computer's hard drives lets the main computer do other tasks while scanning. It would be the best of both worlds.

What computer/OS, by the way? Many cheap print servers for Windows work by the way of software driven USB port replication, and would presumably do for your purposes, but these usually have no Mac/Linux drivers with similar functionality.
