Considering a DSLR...

What's wrong with the NEX? Just wondering.

Nice camera, with good results, but the lack of a VF is a show stopper for me, I thought I could live without it, I couldn't.

Also the lack of NEX fit lenses is a real issue, the lack of a VF is even more problematic when you have to manual focus.

I've had my K5 for about a week, and very impressed so far, especially with high-iso performance. The nice thing is that it is a very small camera compared with the Canon and Nikon (esp. full-frame) cameras. With the DA21/4 lens it weighs in at 920gm, compared with 900 for the M4 with 35/2 Summicron. Very quiet too - I'll have to arrange vid of a direct comparison with the M4. Some will be surprised! Strongly recommend the K5 if you can stretch the budget that far.

A good point about the K5, but I feel quite uncomfortable carrying around such expensive gear, it just doesn't sit well with me. I'm sure the K5 is awesome, but the results I've seen from the K7 with DA Limited lenses are way, way, more than I need.

It's sealing is a bonus too.

I only own one digital and I bought Nikon because I have lots of Nikkor glass for my F, Fm3a and Nikkormats. I found the D90 to be a wonderful rig which although a little large performs better than I had expected! I honestly don't find the shutter noise to be loud at all but again I have not done any kind of comparison.

Ah - but this is the beauty of digital! It might be expensive to buy today, but within a year it is worth very little, and any good thief knows (s)he needs to steal Canon or Nikon to be able to sell easily! 😀 The Pentax is so small it looks like an older model of entry-level camera, and not expensive.

I don't think the discomfort is to do with stealing, maybe breakage, but I just feel a little "on edge" having something worth so much dangling around my neck, I also have a Fuji GF670, which I love, but wandering around London with it makes me nervous, especially when it's folded out, Londoners don't look where they are going (or care, in fact).

I've been slightly distracted by the thought of a Sigma SD14/15, I know they have their flaws, but those foveon images are really lovely. I need to find somewhere to have a play with them both, the K7 is in my local Currys, but no idea where I'd get to pick up an SD15...

Need to have a good think about this.

Olympus E-5 has 1.15x viewfinder.
And you can freeze it and dunk it in water if you had to.
If viewfinder is a big itch for you, you owe it to yourself to check E-5 out.

K5 has nothing on E-5. In my view of course.

The Olys look very nice, but the Four Thirds mount doesn't fill me with confidence, and just doesn't have many options comared to PK.
