I need to have the sensor cleaned/inspected on my monochrom (ccd) version, and I can't seem to get a hold of Leica. The repair@leicacamerausa.com bounces back with a security error and the technical info email comes with an automated out of office email, (seriously?)

Any one have a good route to getting a hold of someone?

I'm a little disappointed/discouraged by this but don't want to make too much of a fuss.

Thanks,
John

Hey John, don't get discouraged. That's just how they are (unfortunately).
Have you tried the main number (800) 222-0118
If that doesn't work try calling the service department directly at (201) 995-0051
Hope this helps.

Best regards,

John

Thanks John,
I have called the main number a few times and haven't gotten through. I left my first voicemail today. I'll try that direct number, thanks for that!

I love my monochrom but as I'm getting more and more projects where I depend on this camera I may consider going a different route when I upgrade to something with a little more "pro" support, though probably not as the monochrom is such a unique type of camera and partially the reason I've been getting more jobs!

After trying and calling many times (Carmen was the only one who answered, but she retired), I decided to send the package to Leica with signature required. After four (anxious weeks) I got a letter (work order) that I needed to sign for them to do the work. They even gave me a deadline to respond. Of course, I responded immediately. After that, it was three months to get my sensor changed/replaced.
The work ordered detailed the inspection and sensor replacement (if necessary), the RF adjusted (they always do), and overall inspection and adjustment. Estimatd price:$0.
Zero because it was the case of corrosion in the sensor. If you send it outside warranty, you would have a cost estimate to approve or reject. They are not cheap.

Leica US is a joke, i don't know how they can be in business with extremely poor customer service.
I shipped my 50 cron for calibration more than 3 months ago and have yet to receive the lens back.
Leaving a message does nothing, they don't return the call.
In my experience it is best to chose the directory, i think that is option 1
You will get to chose the first 3 initials in the name of one of the service people, Jim has been the most responsive and seems willing to go the extra step to help. Rox (Roxanne) would be the next option.
Service manager Bill Weier was helpful in the beginning but stopped responding to emails a while back.

Today I was able to contact Leica N.J. after having difficulties yesterday.

It was confirmed I should ship just my Monochrom body with a body cap, no battery, and no memory card.

I also inquired about getting on the list for sensor replacement so that I could continue to use my Monochrom in the meantime.

I was directed to provide name, address, telephone and e-mail along with my serial number to be contacted when backlog is caught up and replacement sensors are in stock.

I was also told that there is an expected 3-4 month wait.

Hope this is of help to others.

My Monochrom will be 4 years old around February 2017. It has seen heavy use and the anodize has silvered patina along the edges of the top plate. Also the covering is worn smooth from the use of a grip from my fingertips.

I've sent in lenses on three separate occasions and each time the turnaround was below seven weeks. Leica always got back to me within a week with cost estimates and an updated return time estimate.

As others have mentioned here, send it in first, then call during the work day.

Which number do you call? Do yo press "7" for repair department? I always get a machine that says it's the receptionist.

Really I just need to get my sensor cleaned does anyone have a good suggestion on where to have that done? If I keep seeing artifacts, I'll have it checked out by Leica.

M,

I did press "7." It took three attempts before I got someone that was not a recorded message. I had a change of luck when I called in the morning. My first two failed contacts were after lunch.

BTW I bought a Visible Dust bundle that included a LED lit magnifier to clean my own sensor.
