The Contax G lenses are superb, particularly the 21mm. Is there an adapter that will mount those Carl Zeiss optics on the R-D1?
Rangefinder coupling would be nice, but with the 21mm, not a deal-breaker.

Definatly not possible to RF couple it due to the fact the G lenses are AF not RF. However japanexposures do a conversion that puts the glass in a surrogate body which is RF coupled. Its not cheap though.

Thanks for the info...I now remember reading about the conversion and the cost. 'Way too high, IMHO. Well, I'll stick with my 21/2.8 pre-Asph Elmarit-M. I think the Biogon 21 G is better and certainly smaller, but too much $$ to convert.

Why bother? Use these lenses on the Contax G or G2, the way they were meant to be used. Its ashame to cannibalize these wonderful lenses.

Agree:p I used the G1 w/28, 45, 90 years ago indeed, and can't forget the power of Biogon.
It happened that I have a "dead" Rokkor 28 in hand (an expensive lesson learnt at RFF :bang:), and thus the trial.
The outlook is so-so but it works and the cost is not skyhigh.

That is a valid reason! In this case... you saved a lens! Well done!
