Hello,

Am hoping to use my trusty G2 for Infrared shots - probably using Efke IR820 or Rollei IR film with a Heliopan 665 filter.

Is it possible to use IR film with the G2, or does the infrared film rewind sensor cause problems.

Advice welcomed,
Gavin

I've used my G1 and G2 w/ Efke 820 IR with no problems, aside from some focus shift because of the focus difference w/ IR. With the AF it works best if you're using a wider lens, stopped down some, just to give you a bit more DOF to cover for focusing errors.

Go with Caution!!
I used Rollei IR400 in my Contax RX which uses the same IR frame spacer as the G-series RF cams. Fogging destroyed the roll. You may experience the same.

Why challenge "nature"? Get your old SLR with lenses having IR markings, and shoot IR film.

I shot a lot of Kodak HIE in my G2 years ago. No problems with fogging film. No problems with focusing since the DOF always covered the minor differences.

I learned to ignore anything related to iso or metering. I always shot with a 25A, f11 @ 1/250th with eyeball adjustments for subject luminance. This particular frame was exposed f11 @ 1/500th.

Bob - What filter do you use with your G2 and HIE film?

Wow, a response to a post over 3 years old.

I always shot HIE with a 25A or standard red filter.

Since Kodak stopped production of HIE about 4 years ago, I suggest not investing much time in figuring out how it works.

Thanks Bob, yeah found some cold stored HIE and figured I'd give it a whirl in the G2. Glad you were able to show proof that the G2 won't skunk the HIE. I googled HIE and Contax G and there are folks out there claiming it will do X or Y. Nice to see your above beach photo showing that a G2 + HIE = joy
