Owning some film cameras now I'd like to buy a digital point and shot camera small, light and easy-to- use (i'm thinking to my wife....;))without loss of quality from my contax g2 camera set (15mm heliar,21 28 35 45 & 90 primes)usually loaded with fuji 400 pro h film.I've seen the new canon g10 and it seems to be a good camera...but I'm a film camera guy....can you help me?My max enlargement are 30x40 cm.....THANKS GUYS:D

You've obviously handled the G10 so you know the ergonomics are very good. I think the G10 is a fantastic package with excellent features (surprisingly good flash), great ergonomics but only 'passable' image quality. To be honest, at 400, I'd go for a G2 with Fuji 400 any day of the week. I own a G9 and really enjoy it, but at 400, my film (in a FE2 and R3A) produce much nicer prints IMO.

I should also mention that at 80 ISO I am very happy with the G9... I am just like you... seem to shoot at 400 nearly all the time. One area the digital can't compete is B&W of course - something like 400CN is so superior. Ease-of-use... well the G9 is great in that regard. I have probably muddied the waters :) but if quality is the top priority then stick with film or go to a D700, 5D mkII etc. But that probably defeats the purpose! That's where the Contax G shines - quality that's compact.

I definitely recommand the Leica D-Lux4 because of it's really fantastic lens. Great for available light.
There's also a pendant of Panasonic, I think LX-3 named.
Sorry, I don't know the Canon

The Panasonic LX3 has a Leica lens and has recieve very good reviews as has the Cannon G10. The LX3 does not have an optical viewfinder and the Cannon does. Both cameras will shoot in camera RAW format which IMHO is a must for any digital camera. In all of the reviews I have read the Cannon edges out the Panasonic with the Nikon P6000 coming in a close third.
I have been thinking along the same lines thinking about the G10 as an easy walk around alternative to my heavier SLR's and lenses.

Thanks guys, I knew that the contax g2 is a great camera but I want something "new".You know that sometimes I would like to have a camera with me but not all that stuff(body,4/5 lenses,flash,films,bag,batteries,filters..).Please feel free to suggest other camera models....

You should also check out the Sigma DP cameras. Excellent image quality.

Recently in Munich the DP1 was selling for 159 Euro from a major retail outlet.

I own both the G10 and the G2. I shoot the G2 primarily with 100F Velvia slide film and the G10 at 100 usually. For image quality: the G2 and slide film wins hands down ... no contest!

If you need an digital image on a vacation or when you just don't want to carry a camera bag full of primes the G10 does the job very well as a P&S.

Hard to beat the image quality of Contax's Zeiss glass on the G's. I know GAS is a hard thing to fight but I haven't found anything that produces images with enough quality to make me switch from my GOTO G2 system when image quality is the game for the day except a 4x5 or 8x10 large format system (but for me those are a single image capture device when light, composition, conditions are all perfect ...... I have waited days to capture a single image on a large format back in the day). I know they have field large format cameras but I really don't consider them the same as medium, 35's, or digital format cameras.

Hi, I own both Contax G2 and Canon G10 and bring them both on travel. Why? I load my G2 with Delta 400 B&W film as I still find silver B&W prints still have a glow over digital prints.
