Contax iia frame spacing

Why do all my rolls have erratic frame spacing? The first 4-5 frames are spaced too wide, then get back to a more normal spacing? None touch or overlap. I have checked sprocket tooth count, different take up spools, etc. Annoying!

I have used all available spools. Even the ORIGINAL CONTAX spool! I understand there may be some adjustment with the screw at the take up fork, but I do not want to open that can of worms. That adjustment may only be possible on the previous model.

The screw at the take-up fork must be tightened. It's here to secure the spring assembly behind the fork. There is no adjustment behind it. Your problem may come from that screw being loose - and thus the spring assembly and the fork too.

On the IIa another thing to check is the rewind fork and rewind knob unit. It must rotate totally free with no resistance at all.

Also, check the teeth sprocket behaviour. The teeth must always be positioned the same after you fully wind. Otherwise, you have a geartrain problem. On the IIa the sprocket shaft is directly linked to the winding unit thanks to a satellite geartrain located under the top cover. Grime and dirt at this point might be looked for.
