I have a 1936 Contax III that has broken cog in the shutter. And an added flash sync on the upper left side near the Rewind.
I need to find someone who can repair/replace the shutter and take out the guts of the flash sync that may be causing shutter problems..back in the 70s my dad had the shutter repaired, but it did not last long. I have been told that the "added" flash sync was the culprit. Something about the added internals to add a sync caused shutter malfunctions.
I would like a general CLA too.
I live in the USA. But, shipping to UK or alike will be considered.
Even a RFF member would be fine too.

Eddy Smolov is the man touted by people on this forum for Contax repair at reasonable prices and waiting time not measured in years.

I'd go with Henry Sherer and be done with it. He'll take the camera apart COMPLETELY and put it back together perfectly and send it back to you good as new. It's not cheap, and I hear that he has a long waiting list. It's worth it if you don't need the camera right now. When he did my IIIa he did it in seven DAYS!!! Those were, I guess, the good old days. Six years later, the camera still wortks perfectly, and I'm still a big fan of Henry's craftsmanship! You can email him at superwide@earthlink.net.

Essex did the last repair work I had done to a Contax and did a good job.

I thought that Essex did not work on pre-WW2 Contaxes. Anyway, probably does not hurt to ask.
Eddy repaired the shutters on my Two COntax II's and my Contax IIIa. Turn-around time is in weeks, and cost is under $100. Eddy will repair the problem at hand, and did a fine job on the shutters and transport. All are very smooth now. Scherer will do a complete rebuild and restoration of the camera, you will wait 2~3 years and the cost will be several times what Eddy charges. I elected to have my cameras up and running, and they deliver fine pictures.

I second Brian. If you actually want to use the camera, why waste time?

Well, it was my Grand-dads, and then my dads, and now it's mine....PLUS, not many prewar left in working condition. It may cost more than the thing is worth....but, to me, it is an heirloom too.
But, the main reason, I may not use it a lot, but I like my older classics to work regardless.
