Hi All,
I'm looking pretty hard at getting into the Contax N system. I'd love to hear from N owners about your experiences and thoughts on the N bodies and lenses. Post up some pics with and of your Contax Ns!
Take care,
Jim

Hey there Jim. I happen own 2 N1s and an NX, and I'm a former owner of a couple of N Digitals so I know the line quite well.
The optics are very unique, Zeiss lenses that are different than their C/Y brothers and cousins. Some of them are among the finest optics I've used.
The N1 is a meaty beast, heavy but beautifully built. Very good viewfinder. I personally like the added grip as well, which makes it "F5 heavy".
As for performance the AF is excellent, even in very low light, but it is not a system for focus dependent fast action, like sports. You can do it but a Nikon D300 or F100 and above would be a better choice for that kind of shooting.
Standout lenses.... the 85/1.4 is the best I've used, and I've used many. The 100 macro is a real winner and the Planar 50/1.5 is super. Never owned the 400mm, it is one rare beast, and I mean a beast.
Zooms... The 24-85 is stellar, as is the 70-300. The 28-80 and 70-200 are very good but without HSM motors, instead they are screw driven.
Anyway, love mine and miss my N Digitals. If you are shooting scenes that do not require lightning autofocus I can recommend the system.

PS- Meter works very well, no issues.
For wide angles, the 17-35 is excellent but I like straight lines, not my fav.
